Full course description
This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the fundamentals of photovoltaic (PV) technology and the science behind solar cells.
Designed for professionals with a technical background, it explains how sunlight is converted into electricity using semiconductor materials and explores the principles governing solar cell operation and performance.
In addition to the underlying physics, the course covers electrical characterization, efficiency limitations, photovoltaic module technology, manufacturing and sustainability considerations, and current developments in the global PV market. By the end of the course, participants will have a solid understanding of the technologies that enable modern solar energy conversion and their role in the global energy transition.
Course content
The course consists of seven modules covering photovoltaic fundamentals, the global PV market, the solar resource, solar cell physics, electrical characterization, efficiency and its limitations, and photovoltaic module technology. Together, these modules provide a broad understanding of the science, engineering, and application of solar cells.
Course design
The course is delivered entirely online as a self-paced distance-learning course. It consists of seven modules containing short, pre-recorded lectures that can be completed at the participant’s own pace. Self-assessment quizzes are included after each module to support learning, and a final quiz must be successfully completed to obtain the course certificate.
This course takes about 25-30 hours to complete.
